Your website might look fine to you. You built it a few years ago, it has your phone number on it, and people can find it on Google. Job done, right?
Not quite. A website that was acceptable in 2019 can actively hurt your business in 2026. Here are the 5 most common warning signs we see when Finnish business owners come to BizPro asking why their website isn't working.
⚠️ Sign 1: It Looks Bad on a Phone
Over 70% of website visitors in Finland now browse on their mobile phone. If your website isn't properly designed for mobile — text too small, buttons too close together, photos that don't fit the screen — visitors leave immediately. Google also ranks mobile-unfriendly sites lower in search results.
How to check: Open your website on your own phone. If you have to pinch to zoom, or if buttons overlap, your site is losing you mobile customers every day.
⚠️ Sign 2: It Takes More Than 3 Seconds to Load
Studies show that 53% of mobile users abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load. Slow websites are usually caused by unoptimised images, poor hosting, or bloated code. Every second of delay costs you customers.
How to check: Go to pagespeed.web.dev, enter your website URL and check your score. Anything below 70 on mobile needs urgent attention.
⚠️ Sign 3: Your Contact Details Are Hard to Find
A visitor has 5 seconds of patience. If they can't find your phone number, address or email on the first page they land on, they'll go to your competitor. Your contact information should be visible without scrolling — ideally in the header on every page.
How to check: Ask someone who has never seen your website to find your phone number as quickly as possible. If it takes them more than 10 seconds, it's too hidden.
⚠️ Sign 4: It Doesn't Appear on Google
Having a website and being findable on Google are two very different things. Many Finnish business websites are essentially invisible to search engines because they have no SEO, no proper headings, no meta descriptions and no local keywords. If someone searches for your type of business in your city and your site doesn't appear — you're invisible.
How to check: Search Google for your service + city, for example "autokorjaamo Tampere" or "hair salon Vantaa". If you're not on page 1, you have an SEO problem.
⚠️ Sign 5: It Looks Like It Was Built in 2015
Design trends evolve rapidly. A website that looked modern in 2015 looks outdated and untrustworthy today. Small businesses that have an old-looking website signal to customers — fairly or not — that the business itself may be behind the times. First impressions matter enormously online.
How to check: Look at your competitors' websites. If yours looks older, less professional or harder to navigate than theirs, customers will choose them over you.
